Reach Out and Read gives young children a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read aloud together.
The ROR program provides the tools to help promote children's developmental skills and later success in school. There are more than 3,797 ROR programs based on the ROR model at clinics, hospitals, and health centers in all 50 states, Guam, Puerto Rico, the United States Virgin Islands, and the District of Columbia. Mission: Reach Out and Read makes literacy promotion a standard part of pediatric care so that children grow up with books and a love of reading. Statistics:•ROR serves 3.3 million children annually.•ROR distributes over 5.4 million books each year.•More than 50,000 pediatrician, nurses, residents and health professionals have been trained in the ROR model of early-literacy promotion.•Reach Out and Read is endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
